DAHLONEGA - Although she's been in in north Georgia since last summer, Dr. Bonita Jacobs was officially inaugurated as President of the University of North Georgia on Friday afternoon.

Jacobs came to Georgia in July of 2011 to serve as President of North Georgia College and State University. When plans for NGCSU's consolidation with Gainesville State College took off, her inauguration was deferred.

The consolidated University of North Georgia coupled the inauguration with an inaugural scholarship ball, scheduled for Friday evening in Gainesville.

"Serving as president of the University of North Georgia is a privilege and it is an honor. I am excited about what we together will accomplish in the years ahead, and I thank you," Jacobs said in her address.

The inaugural ceremony on the drill field at the Dahlonega campus included a list of dignitaries, including Governor Nathan Deal.
